The first Baptist church in England was founded in 1612 at Spitalfields in London, but few records survive nationally before 1688. Baptist registers record details of adult rather than infant baptism. For the purposes of church government, each Baptist church is an entity in itself, supports its own minister and many belong to a voluntary association with other Baptist churches.
